Tax Deductions for Soldiers, Sailers and Airmen

Some deductions that may be available to ADF employees include:

  • Cost of purchasing, maintaining and laundering uniforms;

  • Outdoor protection items such as sunglasses and sunscreen if working outdoors, as well as wet weather gear;

  • Extra equipment not supplied by unit;

  • Sneakers may be deductible to some members of the defence force where a particularly high level of physical fitness is required. Enlistees should seek professional advice to see if they're eligible.

Defence employees may also be entitled to general tax deductions that are not work specific, such as investment deductions or car expenses deductions.
